In You Shall All the Nations Be Blessed

1/26/2015

Redeeming Life family,

I would like to encourage you to attend a Super Bowl party with people who do not have a personal relationship with Jesus.  Skip our Sunday night service.  You won't hear that from me often, but this time, it's okay.

Why would I say such a thing?  As Christians, we don't hold the blessings of Abraham to ourselves. We are called to be a blessing to the nations.  I want you to get to know your friends and be a blessing to them.

The biggest blessing is to pray for their souls and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with them.  There are many things we can do for our lost friends, neighbors, and the community and we should do many of these things.  But the most important thing we can do is plead to God for their salvation and seek opportunities to tell them about the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Going to a Super Bowl party is not the only way to be a blessing to those around you, but it is one way.

If you do end up coming to the worship service, Benjamin will be preaching from Galatians 3:8.  He'll be discussing what it is to be a blessing to the nations.  But before Sunday, I'd like to invite you and your House Fellowships to discuss this with one another.  How can you as a Christian be a blessing to Salt Lake?  Utah?  The nations?  How about your House Fellowship?  How can your House Fellowship be a blessing to those around you?  How can we as a church be a blessing to Rose Park and Fair Park?  Salt Lake?  The nations?

I propose that there are many, many things we can do and individuals and as a church.  There are so many good ideas from which to choose.  But the thing we absolutely much do first is be a people who pray for those around us.  We should be calling on God to bless our neighbors, Rose Park and Fair Park, Salt Lake, and the nations.  We must remain in a continual posture of prayer.  Are we asking God how he would like us to be a blessing?  Are we seeking his guidance and equipping?  How often are you praying for opportunities to be a blessing to those around you?  How often are you praying for opportunities to share the gospel, to serve, to show the love of Christ as his disciple?  Are you praying for specific people, by name?

Take some time this week and pray for those around you.  See what happens.  Share the stories.  Let's be a blessing to Salt Lake by starting with fervent prayer.

You guys are a blessing!

Pastor Bryan
